Over the years the Financial Services industry has not enjoyed the best of reputations. In our opinion this is justified as many financial advisers, whether they were independent financial advisers, or worked for one particular company, i.e. such as the banks and building societies who were only interested in selling you a product, earning a big commission from that and only coming back to contact you if they needed to earn some more money by way of another commission in the future. The way this was done was that from that original investment you gave them they came back in four or five years time and told you that there was the next “hot” investment and that your money should be moved into that, earning them a fat commission for doing so. All that was happening was your money was going round in circles and every 4 or 5 years the adviser was making a living off of your money because you didn’t see or there was no need to disclose how much the adviser was making.

This still happens, to a certain extent, but of course now the adviser has to disclose how much they are making and instead of charging you a commission they charge a fee for the privilege.

We have never worked that way. We are dedicated to working in partnership with the client to provide a solution to help fulfil all the financial hopes and dreams of the client. Rather the opposite of our “hit and run” colleagues, we are absolutely focussed on maintaining and adjusting a financial plan to achieve the financial goal.

We often use the analogy that we are very much like landscape gardeners in that we will be brought in to tidy up and take out the weeds that have choked and overgrown the garden and replant and redesign the garden but more importantly we will maintain that garden on a regular basis and where we see weeds growing we will pull them out and have that garden immaculate throughout the four seasons. We would undertake to maintain the garden for the owners lifetime.
